Safe Homes Network - 500 Families Strong and Growing!

Safe Homes Logo

The Safe Homes Network of Fountain Hills, Arizona is a group of concerned parents and citizens who have taken a pledge not to allow the consumption of alcohol or illegal drugs to youth, under the age of 21, in our home. We are taking a pro-active step to protect our children from the harmful, often deadly, consequences of alcohol and illegal drug use.

Did you know? In Arizona, it is illegal for anyone to supply alcohol to a
person under the age of 21 under any circumstances. In doing so, the crime
is punishable by up to 6 months in jail, a fine of $2500 and 3 years
probation. In addition, you can be held liable for any injuries caused by (or
to) the minor as a result of the alcohol consumption.

Recent studies show that children as young as age 12, are beginning to experiment with alcohol and marijuana use. As a parent, it is our job to protect and support our children as they navigate through adolescence. On our own, that can be difficult to do. The Safe Homes Network Pledge is to help encourage normal, healthy behavior in our teens, which excludes the use of alcohol, illegal and prescription drugs.

The Safe Homes Network Pledge is not a legal document, rather it is intended to be a show of good faith and a means for communicating with your child and other parents. Join the Network and enjoy these benefits:

  • Openly communicate with other parents in the Safe Homes Network
  • Protect your children more effectively by joining forces with other parents
  • Access to the Safe Homes Network Directory
  • Use the Pledge to clearly communicate family expectations about substance abuse to your children
  • Create a healthy community where underage use of alcohol and illegal drug use is not the "norm"

Text-A-Tip

Text-A-Tip is a program that allows people to report crimes anonymously. The FH Coalition oversees the marketing and funding of this program. We collaborate with Maricopa County Sheriff's Office of Fountain Hills who monitors and implements the program. This national prevention strategy allows for a 7 minute response to a tip that is received via text from a citizen. The entire community has embraced this anonymous tip line and many underage drinking parties have been averted or brought safely under control after MCSO received anonymous tips. Through the Coalition, it allows citizens and students to send anonymous tips via text message from a mobile phone.

Text-A-Tip teams with local businesses

The Fountain Hills Coalition partners with local merchants to help spread the word about Text-A-Tip. For one month merchants place a Text-A-Tip flier in a highly visible location (on a door, window, main counter, etc.) and Text-A-Tip "business cards" by their registers. Businesses are showcased in a front page ad of The Fountain Hills Times each month. If your business would like to participate, please contact Maria at contact@fhcoalition.org.

THANK YOU to more than 300 local merchants who
have supported Text-A-Tip since September of 2011!

Prescription Drug Drop Box

A drop box is available during office hours at Town Hall for disposal of unwanted or expired prescription medications. A joint effort with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, Town of Fountain Hills and the FH Coalition, the permanent drop box was installed in the fall of 2014.

The drop box is located in the Town Hall lobby, just outside the Sheriff's Office entry. It is similar to a mail box with a slot at the top to pull open and drop in the unused prescriptions. The box is secured, allowing only a Sheriff's deputy to open it. The medication is then destroyed by authorities using a secure process that also documents the amount of medications destroyed and the date.

Prescriptions in the form of pills and patches are acceptable. Liquids, inhalers, Epi Pens and syringes are not allowed. Lt. Marty Overton recommends keeping pills in the original vials but blacking out any personal information or removing the label completely. Pet medications are also accepted as long as they meet the above criteria.
